Your Prestwich Update

Welcome to the latest update on the £100m plans to breathe new life into Prestwich village’s centre. Read on to find out how we’re progressing with construction of the travel hub and more information about the temporary road closure on Fairfax Road.

What’s next?

As we move into a busy period of the travel hub’s construction, we will be closing a short stretch of Fairfax Road between Heys Road and just after Rectory Lane from 13th October 2025 to July 2026.

However, we’re hopeful that the work can be completed much quicker than this and we’ll be doing everything we can to complete it as soon as possible.

Full details about the closure and some frequently asked questions can be found by clicking the link here.

Enabling Prestwich’s regeneration

We caught up with Hugh Taylor, project manager at Muse, who’s provided a short update on the planned road closure and touches on the practical gated solution to reduce the disruption to local road users and why it’s important to help the long-term regeneration of the village.

The travel hub is the first phase of a once-in-a-generation regeneration project between Muse and Bury Council that will see the centre of Prestwich transformed. Once completed, the ambitious plans are set to cement Prestwich as one of the best places to live and spend time in the North West, and provide long lasting benefits for local people.

Prestwich Travel Hub update

Since the last update, work has progressed well on site with Vinci successfully installing the main structural frame, which is now in its final stages of erection. The team have completed all grouting and wall in-fills and have now just begun on the masonry – which involves construction of the concrete blocks that will be placed around the structural frame.

Looking ahead, the floor toppings are set to start in the next couple of weeks before starting the utility connections.

Once complete, the travel hub will be a forward-thinking parking solution for the village to suit various modes of transport:

• 254 standard parking bays
• 30 electrical bays
• 1 electrical disabled bay
• 14 standard disabled bays
• 2 City Club parking bays
• 76 cycle storage spaces

The City Club parking bays will allow people the flexibility to hire a car for the day and return it to the travel hub once their done – perfect for those that need a car at short notice.

A huge effort from the Vinci team over the past few months. Make sure to keep an eye out on our socials where we’ll be updating you with the latest from site every week!
