Prestwich Met Street Eats

Warm meals and support thanks to VINCI and Prestwich Met Street Eats

At Muse and Bury Council, we believe regeneration should be about more than new buildings.

It should bring real benefits to the community. That’s why we are pleased to see our construction partner, VINCI Building, supporting Prestwich Met Street Eats, a local organisation that provides hot meals to people who need them most.

VINCI Building, who is currently constructing the new travel hub as part of the wider Prestwich Village regeneration, noticed Prestwich Met Street Eats still serving meals outdoors under the Met bridge despite the cold and wet weather. After seeing volunteers and guests battling with the elements, VINCI Building offered the group the use of its site office canteen, located opposite the bridge.

The canteen now gives Prestwich Met Street Eats a warm and safe space to serve food and drink each Thursday.

About Prestwich Met Street Eats

Prestwich Met Street Eats was founded just over three years ago by local volunteer Julia, who had already spent several years involved in community work. Alongside volunteers Penny, Lissa, Kat and four others, she helped build a valued service that offers both food and social support. Each Thursday from 5.00pm to 7.30pm, the group serves hot meals and drinks to local residents.

Volunteers take turns each week cooking dishes, such as casseroles, pastas and stews. The group is also supported by local businesses who provide supplies that can be taken home by the service users. This winter a local knitting group, based at Prestwich Library, also donated handmade hats, scarves and blankets for the winter.

Providing a safe venue for Prestwich Met Street Eats is a reminder that regeneration is about people at its heart.
