Temporary
car park
closure

As work continues on the new Travel Hub in Prestwich, it is necessary to temporarily reduce a number of parking spaces at the Longfield Centre car park.

This reduction is to provide space for the contractor’s welfare cabins and to enable construction work to proceed. The maximum number of spaces that will be closed will be 46, however this is only for a few days, with 22 parking spaces reopening after the cabins are installed in mid-May 2025.

Below are key dates outlining the number of spaces that will be closed and when.

11 – 15 May 2025

Closure of 46 parking bays

15 May 2025 to July 2026

Closure of 24 parking bays

For alternative parking in Prestwich see here.

While closing some of the parking spaces at the Longfield Centre may cause some short-term inconvenience please be assured we are doing all we can to reduce this impact by using the smallest number of spaces that we can. We did fully explore a number of other alternative locations but unfortunately none of these were viable.

About the Travel Hub

  • The Travel Hub is the first phase of the exciting plans to delivering a £100m+ overhaul of the Longfield Centre site into a new beating heart for the village – including a new community hub, village square, market hall, retail and leisure spaces, homes and outdoor green spaces.
  • The new multi-storey Travel Hub off Fairfax Road is set to open in May 2026 and will provide a long-term parking solution for the village delivering 301 spaces, electric vehicle charging points, cycle storage and car club vehicles.
  • Delivering the new Travel Hub first will mean, once completed, the existing Longfield Centre surface car park can then be used to facilitate the delivery of the village masterplan, whilst maintaining car parking for the village.
